Developmental Snapshot: My Zombie Valentine

World of Dessert, San Diego, CA
Valentine Dinner, the night before last at our house. As usual, one female (moi) and four males (three sons and my husband). Roses on the table, delicious food, all congruent with the Valentine mood so far? Not exactly...Come closer.

Indeed, we are having a conversation about....zombies. They are everywhere in movies these days. All the males at the table are reading/have read stories about zombies. What? I say, stories about zombies? Do these stories even have plots? Characters? What is the dialogue? "Rahhh, gahhh, mmmphf!"?

I quickly get re-educated: apparently,  zombieness and literature are not incompatible. One of my sons declares, authoritatively, that I should read "the mazerunner" an example of a good post-apocalyptic zombie-ish book. After several minutes of giddy zombie conversation, I rain on everyone's parade by pointing out this is maybe not exactly a perfect chick conversation for a romantic holiday.
They knew. We move to something else but..they were having more fun with the zombies.

Later, I reflect to my youngest that I am really the only girl in this family, as exemplified by our Zombie Valentine conversation. He pauses, then makes me laugh: "Mom, if you had girls, they could still be talking about zombies, but they would be talking about fashionable zombies..."

Happy delayed Valentine to All. Stay clear of fashion challenged zombies!

Till Later,

Anne
