Developmental Snapshot: A Different Word Perhaps?

Confusing Words?
Words that we use everyday, e.g., in professional contexts, can be so habitual that we become immunized to the original or usual meaning of the word for others.

My oldest son Jacques is finding out that doctors need "licenses". "Oh...so you need a license to do the doctor thing?" I explain that yes, doctors can't practice without a license.

Pause.

He looks up. "You know, I don't think that this is such a good word to use for Doctors.

I ask which word he is talking about?

"Practice. Saying that a Doctor doing Surgery on you is practicing... does not make it very reassuring. Like maybe, he is not too sure how to do the Surgery but with practice...he'll know how to do it. Seriously Mom, I would recommend using a different word!"

No kidding.

Till Later,

Anne
