Developmental Snapshot: The Shutdown

Busy Mother & her 3 kids by a 3 year old artist
My 10 year old son is sprawled downstairs doing homework. There is a soundtrack to this activity as he sings an improvised ballad: the woe of being stuck inside on a beautiful evening, the joy of being 10, the alphabet, some rhymes...it's all rolled up into the song.

The music stops suddenly.

 "Mooooom. Moooom!"
"What?"
"Are you still going to be paid?"
"What do you mean?"
"With the Government Shutdown...Are you still going to be paid?"
"Yes.... I do not work for the Government"
"OK...Great..."

The song restarts with a vengeance, its creator satisfied that his little world is not about to be destroyed impendingly by the bigger world outside.

His older brothers exchange glances: if only it were that simple...

Till Later,

Anne
