Developmental Snapshot: Colonial Activities and Maternal Clothing

Tea Set of the Tea Stainer Mom
My kids went back to school today after the usual winter break plus a couple snow days.

If you're like me and have all school age children older than 10, the first school day back, you might feel like Atlas after a miraculous reprieve: you're putting back the load on your shoulders by adding the school schedule, demands, homework, activities, transportation etc...back to your regular schedule which is already busy enough.

It's the evening after the first day back and my youngest son needs my help.
"I need your help mom, come over here!"
I've just removed my work clothing and put some green suede skirt which was within grabbing distance.

"Now you look like a regular mom!"
"A regular mom?"
"Yes, they always wear dark or green, puke colored pants or skirts"
He sees my raised eyebrows and adds quickly: "Which looks very nice...at least sometimes, like on you for example."

So what was my fashion maven needing me for? Something I had never done before: Colonial Tea-Staining... of a book.

The instructions were pretty simple and the execution less so. Multiple tea bags later (only earl gray worked by the way), the masterpiece is questionable. Like maternal clothing apparently....

Till Later,

Anne

  1. PS: Day 2 of colonial staining and English Breakfast works even better than Earl Gray.
